Directions
To
get to Macdonald Wood Park, walk out the front gate and turn right.
The park is at the end of the block. There are walking trails
throughout. The east-west connects with Mac Laing Nature Park, Filberg
Lodge and Park and Comox . (See map.)
To get to the beach, turn right at the gate,
walk to the end of Docliddle Road (the aforesaid one block), and turn
left. The beach is at the end of the road, one block. If you turn right
and walk along the beach, you'll link up with walking trails into Comox.
To get to Goose Spit, which is the finest sand
beach in the Valley, definitely the place to windsurf and sun, turn left
at the gate and walk the other way. It will take you about ten minutes.
At the end of the block, there's a T-junction. Turn right. The road will
curve around. Follow it by some nice houses on the water. The road looks
like it deadends at the woods - but keep on walking. When you get right
up to the trees at the end, you'll find a trail. This is a public
thoroughfare, not private property, so feel confident about walking
there. Ignore the barking dog at the last house.
The trail winds around an alpaca farm to the right. These are gentle,
shy animals which won't usually get too close. They are very valuable.
The owner would shoot a dog which chased his stock - just a warning. Your
dog of course is well-behaved.
The trail comes out on a road which leads right down to Goose Spit, a
distance of a block.
To get to downtown Comox, you can either walk
through the parks or go back up to the corner of Balmoral and Croteau
and turn left. Balmoral will take you right to the Comox Mall.
Come and enjoy the Comox Valley!
